Kayleigh McEnany Turns The Tables On Media: “I Guess I Would Turn The Question Back On The Media & Ask Similar Questions”

Wednesday during the White House press briefing, Kayleigh McEnany, the White House press secretary, turned the tables back on the media by asking reporters whether they wanted to retract stories they have written by downplaying the coronavirus threat.

“Kayleigh, in a previous life before you were press secretary, you worked for the campaign. And you made a comment, I believe on Fox, in which you said President Trump will not allow the coronavirus to come to this country. Given what has happened since then obviously, would you like to take that back?” a reporter asked McEnany.

The White House press secretary responded: “Well, let me first note I was asked a question on Fox Business about the president’s travel restrictions. I noted what the intent behind those travel restrictions, which is, ‘We will not see the coronavirus come here, we will not see terrorism come here,’ referring to an earlier set of travel restrictions”.

“I guess I would turn the question back on the media and ask similar questions,” McEnany said.

“Does Vox want to take back that they proclaimed the coronavirus would not be a deadly pandemic?” she asked.

The Wrap noted in March that Vox deleted a tweet from January that assured followers the coronavirus would not be a deadly pandemic. “We have deleted a tweet from Jan 31 that no longer reflects the current reality of the coronavirus story,” tweeted Vox’s account. Continued Below

“Does the Washington Post want to take back that they told Americas to get a grippe– the flu is bigger than the coronavirus?” McEnany asked, referring to the WaPo’s article that was published on February 1.

“Does the Washington Post, likewise, want to take back that ‘our brains are causing us to exaggerate the threat of the coronavirus?’” she wondered. Continued Below

McEnany also asked the same question over articles published with the following headlines:

In Europe, Fear Spreads Faster Than the Coronavirus Itself,” from The New York Times.

“Worried About Catching The New Coronavirus? In The U.S., Flu Is A Bigger Threat,” from NPR.

Why we should be wary of an aggressive government response to coronavirus,” from The Washington Post.

“I’ll leave you with those questions, and maybe you’ll have some answer in a few days,” McEnany said to reporters before ending the briefing. Video Below
