In a weekend tweet, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi denounced President Trump’s criticism of Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings’ Baltimore district as “racist attacks,” calling Cummings’ handling of his district “steadfast leadership.”
Pelosi’s remarks came in response to Trump’s scathing condemnation of the Baltimore representative’s repeated attacks on the US Border Patrol, as well as the condition of his district, which Trump called “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”
“If [Cummings] spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous [and] filthy place,” added Trump, sparking outrage from Democrats and liberals on social media.

However, despite Pelosi’s immediate allegations of racism, social media commenters quickly fired back her claims, and demanded to know what Trump had said that constituted racism.
@SpeakerPelosi the more you throw around Racism the least effective it becomes. Not one word in @realDonaldTrump tweet was racist. We all know you are the REAL racist Nancy Nancy Nancy!

Madam Speaker, if President Trump’s attack was racist, so were your attacks on @aoc and @IlhanMN.
Will you apologize for your attempts to marginalize these important women of color in your caucus?

There is no systemic racism in America. The truth is white people do not get up everyday and spend their time and energy trying to stop black people. The only person in this country who can stop you from achieving your dreams is the person you look at in the mirror each morning ~

Who said anything about race? Oh, it was YOU. Stop already. There’s nothing productive about race-baiting. And he’s right about Baltimore. Compared to the border, his district has a lot of work to do.
