Trump confirms death of Osama bin Laden’s son

President Donald Trump on Saturday confirmed Osama bin Laden’s son has been killed in a U.S. counterterrorism operation.

„Hamza bin Ladin, the high-ranking al-Qa’ida member and son of Usama bin Ladin, was killed in a United States counterterrorism operation in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region,“ Trump said in a statement released by the White House press office.

„The loss of Hamza bin Ladin not only deprives al-Qa’ida of important leadership skills and the symbolic connection to his father, but undermines important operational activities of the group. Hamza bin Ladin was responsible for planning and dealing with various terrorist groups,“ Trump continued.

Hamza Bin Laden’s death was first reported last month, with reports citing anonymous U.S. officials. Trump had refused to comment on the matter.

Bin Laden was introduced as a voice of Al Qaeda in August 2015 as “a young lion to carry forth the cause.”

His father, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, was killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan in 2011.

Shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, that killed nearly 3,000 people, President George W. Bush declared that U.S. forces would get the Al Qaeda leader “dead or alive.”
