Trump retweets petition to pardon Roger Stone

President Donald Trump on Saturday further amplified speculation he’s set to pardon Roger Stone before his longtime political adviser reports to federal prison.

Trump retweeted a story on a petition calling on the president to pardon Stone, who was sentenced to 40 months in prison in February for witness-tempering and lying to Congress amid the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“IT’s TIME TO #PardonRogerStone,” the original tweet read.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the Republican political operative and self-proclaimed "dirty trickster" to surrender to authorities on July 14 and to undertake home confinement until then. Judge Amy Berman Jackson denied Stone’s request to delay the start of his sentence until Sept. 3

Trump has hinted in the past that Stone will not serve any time. On June 4, he tweeted: “Roger was a victim of a corrupt and illegal Witch Hunt, one which will go down as the greatest political crime in history. He can sleep well at night!”
