In light of the recent controversy surrounding transgender powerlifter Laurel Hubbard, who was formerly known as Gavin, Larry Maile, the president of USA Powerlifting, shared his thoughts on the issue.
Speaking during a recent interview, Maile said the inclusion of male-to-female wight lifters “should be a concern for women” as Hubbard continues to smash records.
Discussing the role testosterone plays in weight lifting, Maile said requirements governing testosterone levels “appears to be a significant advantage” for athletes like Hubbard.
The issue of transgender athletes, specifically male-to-female athletes, remains highly controversial as critics condemn the practice as unfair to other competitors.
