Democrat Joe Manchin Says Beto is “Not Taking My Guns Away From Me”

Democrat Senator Joe Manchin is not on board with Beto and Kamala Harris’ desire to institute a mandatory government buyback on assault weapons, including AR-15s.

Manchin told a Wall Street Journal reporter:

“Beto’s one human being. He gave his own opinion, OK? I think it was very harmful to make it look like all the Democrats. I can tell you one thing: @BetoORourke

‘s not taking my guns away from me. You tell Beto that OK?”

During the 3rd Democrat debate, Beto made waves by declaring “hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15’s.”

Senator Joe Manchin is considered one of the more moderate Democrat Senators, breaking rank from his party to vote “yes” on Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment.

Manchin’s office later clarified he does not own an “AR-type weapon.”

Appearing on the Tonight Show Monday, fellow 2020 candidate Kamala Harris voiced her support for a forced government buyback on AR-15s.

“I do believe that we need to do buybacks, and I’ll tell you why. First of all, let’s be clear about what assault weapons are. They have been designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. They are weapons of war with no place on the streets of a civil society. I’ve seen assault weapons kill babies and police officers.”

Per WashingtonTimes, Harris said she planned to take executive action on gun control if Congress failed to act within 100 days of her presidency, including a federal ban on assault weapons and a “comprehensive background check requirement.”

“A buyback program is a good idea. Now we need to do it the right way,” she said. “And part of that has to be, you know, buy back and give people their value, the financial value of what they have and not just take things from people that have value without compensating them. We need to do it the right way.”
