Jill Biden: Lindsey Graham’s Trump-era transformation ‘a little hurtful’

A spokesperson for Graham’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been among the most outspoken Republicans defending the president in his ongoing Senate impeachment trial, a process initiated over accusations that the president held up military aid to Ukraine in order to pressure the Ukrainian president into launching an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who served on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

The South Carolina senator was an especially vocal opponent of Democratic efforts to call additional witnesses in the president’s Senate trial, threatening at one point to drag Hunter Biden, who has not been credibly accused of wrongdoing, in to testify if any additional witnesses were heard. Graham has also called for an outside investigator to probe Hunter Biden’s role on the Burisma board.

Graham’s threats were ultimately rendered moot late last week when Republicans narrowly defeated efforts to call additional witnesses in the Senate trial, a step that likely paves the way for Trump’s acquittal on Wednesday.

“Hunter has done nothing wrong,” Jill Biden said “Why would Hunter be called? Donald Trump should be before that committee.”
