Pres Trump & Press Sec McEnany Respond Over Calls To Rename Military Bases: “Respect Our Military!”

Left wing “news sources” in recent days, have reported “pressure mounts to rename Army bases that honor confederate officers”.

Over the course of World War I and World War II, bases were named bearing the last names of rebel generals, eventually 10 in all: Fort Bragg, N.C. (Braxton Bragg), Fort Benning, Ga., (Henry Benning) and Fort Hood, Texas, (John Bell Hood). Now, as the nation erupts in protests over police treatment of African Americans, these base names honoring Confederate leaders are coming under scrutiny– again, reported NPR.

Retired Army General David Petraeus wrote in The Atlantic Tuesday: “Had Bragg, like most of the rebel honorees, not been elevated by the effort to memorialize the ‘Lost Cause’ … he would probably have been consigned to historical obscurity.”

Petraeus also wrote that throughout his Army career he encountered enthusiasm for rebel commanders and “a special veneration for Lee,” but suggested it’s time to retire all those names. “We do not live in a country to which Braxton Bragg, Henry L. Benning or Robert E. Lee can serve as an inspiration. Acknowledging this fact is imperative.”

L. A. Times reported Friday: Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, both former Army officers, put out word through their spokesmen that they are “open to a bipartisan discussion” of renaming Army bases such as North Carolina’s Fort Bragg that honor Confederate officers who led the fight against the Union and directly or implicitly defended the institution of slavery.

President Trump responded to calls of renaming military bases on Twitter Wednesday, saying his “administration will not even consider” the idea. Continued Below

“It has been suggested that we should rename as many as 10 of our Legendary Military Bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Benning in Georgia, etc. These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom,” the president wrote.

“The United States of America trained and deployed our HEROES on these Hallowed Grounds, and won two World Wars,” he continued.

“Therefore, my Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations. Our history as the Greatest Nation in the World will not be tampered with. Respect our Military!” the Commander in Chief recommended. Continued Below
