First Lady Melania Trump fired back at critics on Twitter Saturday, defending the work of the White House Tennis Pavillion project that is currently in progress.
On Thursday, the first lady had tweeted pictures of her in a hard hat with workers and wrote, “I am excited to share the progress of the Tennis Pavillion at @WhiteHouse. Thank you to the talented team for their hard work and dedication.”
Social media erupted after First Lady Melania tweeted the pictures about the tennis court at the White House amid the coronavirus, but Melania fired back recommending to critics to “contribute something good”.
“I encourage everyone who chooses to be negative & question my work at the @WhiteHouse to take time and contribute something good & productive in their own communities. #BeBest,” the first lady tweeted on Saturday.
Melania first announced plans for the tennis court in October, tweeting that the “legacy piece” would be a gathering place for future first families “to enjoy for years to come”. The new pavilion is being funded by private donations, the White House said.
According to CNN, a June building proposal from the National Park Service states the pavilion will “provide a unifying element for the tennis court, the Children’s Garden and the Kitchen Garden.” The Children’s Garden was installed in 1968 by former first lady Lady Bird Johnson, while the Kitchen Garden was created in 2009 by then-first lady Michelle Obama. Some, however, perceived the tennis court at the White House as a bit much, amid the coronavirus.
Actress Mia Farrow had tweeted on Thursday, “29 people were killed by a tornado in Tennessee, the world is shuddering as a pandemic expands and what is a tennis pavillion?”
She later deleted her tweet on Saturday and wrote, “Caught myself mean- tweeting @ Melania re her tennis pavilion project.. Deleted. I must be nicer i must be nicer i must be nicer.”

The wife of Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, Connie Schultz, tweeted: “Millions of Americans seek assurance that this administration is doing all that it can to stem spread of the coronavirus, but the First Lady wants us to know she’s ‘excited’ about her new tennis court. People are scared,@FLOTUS. Flaunting a lack of empathy inflicts further harm.”

General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn also harshly criticized the first lady:
Look at what Melanoma is doing in the middle of a pandemic. Isn’t she just the #BeBest? https://t.co/LMlA0d7u33

Is putting a tennis court in the White House considered community service?

Do you have anyone reviewing your posts? Fire them & delete your acct. Every time you “share” it unleashes a country full of easy comebacks to your cluelessness & a passionate intolerance of you in general. Stay home & polish your gold toilet seats. Just don’t speak. Shhhh.

Meanwhile, many came to the first lady’s defense on Saturday as well, after Melania encouraged “everyone who chooses to be negative & question my work at the White House to take time and contribute something good & productive in their own communities”.
That is great advice, they would feel much better about themselves as well.
Always being negative is an awful place to be in.
Thank you @FLOTUS for all of your hard work, millions of Americans appreciate what you are doing for our country!

For all of you who are misinformed on this project:
It is a National Park Service project funded by private donations that’s been in the works for over a year.— Common Endeavors (@sonicendeavor) March 7, 2020
We love you @FLOTUS . Those with dark hearts, who are filled with hate, always look for things that bring them down even further, trying to take others with them to wallow in the misery. We are thankful for all you do. #BeBest #OnlyLoveDrivesOutHate

Ignore the ignorant haters. We love you. Thank you for all that you do

Ignore the haters. Jackie O’ changed the drapes and they practically nominated her for sainthood for doing so. Hypocrites. You’re doing a great job. 👍
