President Trump Announces He Will Visit Tennessee Friday Following The Devastating Tornadoes

President Trump said he will visit Tennessee on Friday after 25 people were killed following the devastating tornadoes that ripped through the Volunteer State Tuesday morning.

“Our hearts are full of sorrow for the lives that were lost,” said the president on Tuesday during a speech at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference, at the Washington Hilton in D.C.

The tornadoes were part of a powerful storm system stretching from Texas to North Carolina. One tornado slashed through Nashville for miles, leaving destroyed homes and downed powerlines in its wake. At least 48 structures collapsed around Nashville, according to the Nashville Fire Department. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee declared a state of emergency, reported USA Today.

President Trump also spoke with Bill Lee on the phone Tuesday, offering the governor “condolences for the lives lost and the families and communities impacted,” the White House said in a statement. “The President underscored that the Federal Government will help the people of Tennessee respond to and recover from this tragic incident.”

During Friday’s visit, Trump will “tour some of the damage and offer support to Tennesseans,” the statement said.

The Commander in Chief also tweeted on Tuesday: “Prayers for all of those affected by the devasting tornadoes in Tennesee. We will continue to monitor the developments. The Federal Government is with you all of the way during this difficult time.” (Continued Below)

Vice President Mike Pence also tweeted: “We are praying for all of those who were affected by the tornadoes in Tennessee and for the families who lost loved ones.
