Trump Donates His Quarterly Salary To HHS To “Support The Efforts Being Undertaken To Confront, Contain, & Combat Coronavirus”

The White House announced on Tuesday that President Donald Trump has donated his quarterly salary to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as it seeks to combat the coronavirus.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham took to Twitter to say that President Trump donated his salary from the fourth quarter of 2019 “to support the efforts being undertaken to confront, contain, and combat #Coronavirus.”

The press secretary tweeted on Tuesday: “President @realDonaldTrump made a commitment to donate his salary while in office.”

“Honoring that promise and to further protect the American people, he is donating his 2019 Q4 salary to @HHSGov to support the efforts being undertaken to confront, contain, and combat #Coronavirus,” Grisham wrote.

President Trump pledged to donate his quarterly $100,000 salary upon taking office, and he has given it to various government agencies over his first three years in the White House.

He has previously donated his salary to the departments of Homeland Security, Transportation and Veterans Affairs, as well as the government agency fighting the opioid crisis, among others, as reported by The Hill. (Continued Below)

COVID-19 has infected more than 90,000 people worldwide and killed more than 31,000 as of March 3. In the U.S, 108 people have been infected. The 108 U.S. cases include 45 people who were aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship briefly quarantined in Japan, three people repatriated to the U.S. from China, and 60 other U.S. cases. Eight people have died from the virus, all of whom lived in the state of Washington, reported WCNC.

To put the coronavirus numbers in context, millions of Americans get the flu every single year and there are thousands of flu deaths annually. Since October 2019, the CDC estimates around 32 million Americans have gotten the flu. That’s one in every 10 Americans, as per WCNC.

President Trump also participated in a roundtable briefing event at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland on Tuesday. (Video Below)
