During a Keep America Great rally in North Charleston, South Carolina on Friday, President Donald Trump pushed back at Democrats’ attempt to “politicize” of the coronavirus.
“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” the president said. “They’re politicizing it.”
“We did one of the great jobs, you say, “How’s President Trump doing?” They go, “Oh, not good, not good.” They have no clue; they don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa. They can’t count their votes,” the president said on Friday.
“One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. They’ve been doing it since you got in.’ It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. And this is their new hoax,” he continued.
“But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We have 15 people in this massive country, and because of the fact that we won early, we won early, we could’ve had a lot more than that. We’re doing great. Our country is doing so great. We are so unified. We are so unified,” Trump added.
The media, however, portrayed the president’s comments differently, claiming that the Commander in Chief called the coronavirus a hoax.” (Continued Below)
Trump’s “hoax” comment was referring to Democrats claiming his administration is not doing a good job containing the virus. His first comments are about how Democrats asked how Trump is doing in regard to the Coronavirus, and he mockingly responds as them: “Not good.” He never said the coronavirus itself is a hoax, just Democrats’ claims that the Trump administration is failing to protect the country, as reported by Daily Wire.
Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank tweeted: “Remember this moment: Trump, in South Carolina, just called the coronavirus a ‘hoax.’” Politico wrote an article with the headline: “Trump rallies his base to treat coronavirus as a ‘hoax.’” NBC also published a headline that read: “Trump calls coronavirus Democrats’ ‘new hoax.’”
On Saturday, a reporter asked the president about his usage of the word “hoax” during a news conference at the White House over the coronavirus. President Trump explained the “hoax, referring to the action [Democrats] take to pin this on somebody”. (Continued Below)
“You were down in Charleston last night using the word ‘hoax’ when talking about Democrats. Somebody is now is dead from this [coronavirus]. Do you regret that kind of talk?” the reported asked the president at the White House.
“No, no, no. Hoax, referring to the action they take to pin this on somebody, [be]cause we’ve done such a good job. The hoax is on them,” the president responded. “I’m not talking about what’s happening here. I’m talking about what they’re doing. That’s the hoax. That’s just a continuation of the hoax, whether it’s the impeachment hoax, or the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax. This is what I’m talking about.”
“Certainly not about this. How can anybody refer to this?” he asked. “This is very serious stuff. But the way that they have referred to it– because these people have done such an incredible job. And I don’t like it when they are criticizing these people, and that’s the hoax.” (Video Below)
President Trump’s response to a reporter about his usage of the word “hoax” during a news briefing at the Whtie House:
Reporter: You used the word „hoax“ to talk about this last night. Do you regret that?
President @realDonaldTrump: No. Hoax was referring to the action they [Democrats] take to pin this on somebody. The hoax is on them. pic.twitter.com/15eOdsLfpQ

President Trump’s remarks during the rally in South Carolina:
Here’s the video.@realDonaldTrump clearly says the Democrats’ politicization of & attempts to weaponize the coronavirus is “the new hoax.”
He does not call the virus itself a hoax.
And all media and pundits saying otherwise are proving POTUS’s point.

Dinesh D’Souza responded to Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank, pointing out that the president “called the politicization of the issue by Democratic Left a hoax”.
Really? He called the virus itself a hoax? I heard what he said, and he called the politicization of the issue by the Democratic Left a hoax. Let’s roll the videotape and see who’s telling the truth here https://t.co/0Qb7mA3FQI

D’Souza also pointed to Politico’s article:
Actually he called the Democratic Left’s attempt to exploit the issue their “latest hoax.” This does not sit well with those like @politico that are part of the hoax https://t.co/eMFwUdMgt3

President Trump did NOT call Coronavirus a “hoax”.
He was referring to how Democrats mischaracterized his response and the U.S. readiness to combat it.@APFactCheck agrees with Trump. pic.twitter.com/G13mR0rjEB
