President Donald Trump’s newly appointed campaign manager is making more changes to the reelection effort as it barrels toward Election Day.
Bill Stepien announced Monday that Justin Clark would be serving as deputy campaign manager, Nick Trainer as director of battleground strategy, and Matt Morgan as campaign counsel.
The moves are aimed at tightening the leadership structure of a massive Trump political apparatus that stretches across 13 departments. With just over 100 days until the election, senior aides have complained that coordination has at times been hard, and they have expressed a desire for greater focus.
It comes less than a week after Trump replaced longtime campaign manager Brad Parscale with Stepien, a former White House political director and top aide on his 2016 campaign.
Stepien, Clark and Trainer have long been close. Clark, who is moving into the position Stepien held prior to his promotion, served with Stepien on the 2016 campaign and in the White House. Trainer also worked under Stepien in the administration.
The three have spent much of the last year-and-a-half organizing convention delegates, with an eye toward ensuring that this summer’s confab is a smooth-running affair free of the internecine party warfare that defined the 2016 event.
