President Donald Trump took to Twitter Monday to explain that states are responsible for coronavirus testing and assured it would be “easy” to accomplish widespread screening.
This comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) amplified Democrats’ call for more “testing, testing, testing”, during Sunday interviews on ABC and Fox News.
In a series of tweets, President Trump blasted the “radical left” and “do nothing Democrats,” criticizing them for appearing to raise false alarms over ventilator shortages as he’s taking steps to reopen the economy.
“Last month all you heard from the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats was, ‘Ventilators, Ventilators, Ventilators.’ They screamed it loud & clear, & thought they had us cold, even though it was the State’s task. But everyone got their V’s, with many to spare,” the president explained.
“Now they scream ‘Testing, Testing, Testing,’ again playing a very dangerous political game,” he pointed out.
“States, not the Federal Government, should be doing the Testing – But we will work with the Governors and get it done. This is easy compared to the fast production of thousands of complex Ventilators!” President Trump added. Continued Below
On Sunday, the president tweeted: “Just like I was right on Ventilators (our Country is now the ‘King of Ventilators’, other countries are calling asking for help-we will!), I am right on testing. Governors must be able to step up and get the job done. We will be with you ALL THE WAY!”
The Commander in Chief also announced Sunday that he will use the Defense Production Act to direct a company to increase the production of swabs for coronavirus testing by over 20 million swabs per month. “We’re calling in the Defense Production Act and we’ll be getting swabs very easily,” he said.
During an ABC “This Week” interview on Sunday, Speaker Pelosi told host George Stephanopoulos, “The key that opens the door to the economy is testing, testing, testing. We haven’t done it right.” Video Below
Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday told reporters during the White Briefing: “We believe we have the testing today around the country that would allow any state in America to move into Phase One if they’ve met the other criteria.”
