President Trump took to Twitter Friday amid the unusual lockdown restrictions in some states, tweeting “LIBERATE Minnesota” and then adding Michigan and Virginia to the list.
The president’s tweets come a day after the Commander in Chief’s Coronavirus Taskforce put out guidelines that give governors the ability to decide when and how to reopen their state up amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“LIBERATE MINNESOTA! LIBERATE MICHIGAN! LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!” the President declared on Twitter.
Hundreds of protesters flooded Michigan’s state capitol in downtown Lansing on Wednesday to protest Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order during the coronavirus outbreak, complaining that Whitmer has trampled on their liberty.
The main order people are taking issue with is the extension of the stay at home order and what businesses are considered essential and non-essential. On Thursday, April 9, Whitmer extended that order through the end of the month and also introduced new restrictions on garden centers and stores selling furniture and paint, reported WZZM13.
President Donald Trump also ripped House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for failing to come to an agreement on additional funding for small businesses amid the pandemic and urged congressional Democrats to return to Washington, D.C. from recess. (Continued Below)
“Today people started losing their jobs because of Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, who should immediately come back to Washington and approve legislation to help families in America,” the president tweeted on Friday.
“End your ENDLESS VACATION!” he proclaimed.
The president’s tweet comes as the Payment Protection Program, which helps businesses with under 500 employees obtain loans that can cover eight weeks of their payroll, benefits, rent and other expenses, ran out of funding. The program was created as part of the $2.2 trillion CARES Act that passed last month, and converts the small business loans to grants and would be fully forgiven if 75 percent of the loan is used to keep employees on the payroll, reported Fox News. Last week, Senate Republicans tried to pass a “clean” bill by unanimous consent that would have simply boosted PPP funding by $250 billion. Senate Democrats objected and blocked the bill.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on April 9th called the attempt to pass more PPP funding in a clean bill a “stunt on the floor” and said there was “no data as to why we need it” while calling for negotiations. She also took a brief moment to “congratulate” Senate Democrats for blocking $250 billion in emergency relief to small business owners during an interview on MSNBC Tuesday.
President Trump also took to Twitter Thursday, slamming Democrats for “blocking additional funding” for PPP.
“Democrats are blocking additional funding for the popular Paycheck Protection Program. They are killing American small businesses. Stop playing politics Dems! Support Refilling PPP NOW – it is out of funds!” the president declared. (Continued Below)
