NY Post “AOC is Vulnerable to a Primary Challenge, Survey Finds”

Nearly 30% of Democrats in media sensation AOC’s district view her unfavorably, and 24% are unsure, according to a new survey by an Anti-AOC PAC.

Multiple polls have showed an overall unfavorable opinion from New Yorkers on AOC’s decision to drive away Amazon.com, costing the city thousands of jobs.

Per IJR, the Sienna College Research Institute released a report showing 57% of those polled — all of whom are registered voters from New York’s 14th Congressional District — believe Amazon’s withdrawal from placing a headquarters in New York was bad for the state, and 58% of respondents hope the company will reconsider.

While many respondents viewed Ocasio-Cortez in a favorable way, 40% worry about her inexperienced decisions so far in office. Following Amazon’s pullout of NYC, even MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” sounded off on the congresswoman’s role in criticizing the deal, saying she “does not know what she’s talking about.”

Whether AOC’s weak polling in her district could translate into her actually losing her seat in 2020 is unclear.

She’s a social media superstar — but a survey of Democrats in her Bronx-Queens 14th District has found that Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is vulnerable to a re-election challenge.

The survey, commissioned by the decidedly anti-Ocasio-Cortez “Stop The AOC” political action committee, found that 47% of Democrats in the 14th Congressional District view her favorably and 29% unfavorably, with 24% unsure.

Asked if they supported Ocasio-Cortez’s efforts to “ruin the Amazon deal that would have created 25,000 jobs in the neighborhood,”  37% said yes, 35% said no with 28% unsure.

Anger directed at Ocasio-Cortez over Amazon’s decision to back out of a deal for a headquarters and campus in Long Island City has created an opening for a challenger to pound her as anti-jobs and anti-business, said Dan Backer, founder of Stop The AOC.

“The argument against AOC is Amazon, Amazon and also Amazon,” Backer said.

The Post previously reported that the anti-AOC group was spending money to gauge opposition to her in the district.

Voters were also asked if they believe AOC spends more time focusing on social media than helping New Yorkers in her district.

The results found that 40% said AOC is helping her district more, 22% said she’s focusing on social media more, and the remaining 38% were unsure.

Respondents were mixed on whether they would support a primary challenger to AOC — 26% said likely or somewhat likely, 43% said unlikely or somewhat unlikely with nearly a third undecided.

Canvassers for the anti-AOC group door knocked on over 5,400 Democratic households and interviewed 817 registered Dems. About two-thirds of respondents said they knew of the first-term congresswoman.

The survey even claimed that a third of Democrats were open to supporting a Republican challenger in the 2020 general election.

“After surveying voters in 817 Democratic homes in the district, it’s clear Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is not sitting well with the voters she was elected to serve. The opportunity for a new voice is prevalent in the Democratic primary, and the electorate is ready to take action in 2020,” said Justin Greiss, of Mobilize the Message, whose group conducted the survey for the STOP the AOC group.
